Philmont 2008 Crew 703N1 - Here is our trek information courtesy watchu.org and philsearch.org!

7/1 - Leave for Philmont

Two days touring the Front Range in Colorado including a nine mile Class III/IV raft trip down Big Horn Canyon or the Royal Gorge on the Arkansas River and a trip riding the cog railway to the summit of Pikes Peak.

7/3 - Arrive at Philmont

The MAPS column contains three different kinds of maps for each day of Trek #8.  Each is a PDF file so you'll need Adobe Reader to view them.  The "Route Map" is an overview of the most direct route for the day.  The "Profile" shows the elevation profile of that route.  The "USGS" map is a USGS topographical map from the USGS Quads showing the route.

The routes shown on the maps do not show the route we necessarily intend to take and do not show stops for program, water, or resupply.  These are just intended to give an overview of the area that will be hiked each day, the trails available in the area, and an approximation of the elevation climbed or descended.

NOTES:

1.  Mileages listed are: first per TREKS, second per TREKS Elevation/Distance chart, and the third (LARGE) are the sum of the daily values which are taken from PhilSearch, the 2003 Philmont Interactive Ranger or estimates, adjusted for consistency as noted.

2.  Program shown in italic on Trail camp days are not listed in the TREKS booklet, but the itinerary passes near or through a Staffed camp with program.

3.  Programs shown in italic at Staffed camps are not listed in the TREKS booklet for that particular itinerary (horse rides being the sole exception - listed only if included in TREKS).

4.  Dinners in italic are not listed in the TREKS booklet, but are noted as one less meal in the "menu no." column.

5.  Elevations are from a posting of GPS coordinates for Philmont camps by R. Dudley Koy, M.D. @ http://www.lns.cornell.edu/~seb/philmont-waypoints.html and Philmont Interactive Ranger

6.  Itineraries can and do change from year to year - verify with the latest TREKS booklet before sending in your itinerary selection card!
