Palisades Hike - 5/7/2K |
Back to Home |
Our May hike was to Palisades Interstate Park from the Englewood Boat Basin to the George Washington Bridge and back. The weather was hot but the breeze off the river provided some natural air conditioning which made the hike very enjoyable.
We ran into some kayakers at Ross Dock taking a break on the beach. There are numerous remains of docks and bathing beaches along the shore trail along with their associated picnic areas. The NJ side of the river was a popular beach area. People would take a ferry from New York City to spend a day at the beach. Ross dock is one such place but we passed a half dozen during our hike.
We saw a lot of wildlife on this trip, not just common animals like the geese and goslings above, but also chipmunks, gold finches, a catbird, and many other birds. This woodchuck had a nice little cave of a home for itself.
The little red lighthouse as seen from the NJ side.
