Cars must be built according to Offical Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kit
instructions and rules. Weight not over 5 ounces; width not more than 2-3/4";
width between wheels 1-3/4"; bottom clearance between car and track 3/8".
Only
dry lubricants (graphite) may be used, no oil or WD40. Wheels and axles
in kit must be used, wheels cannot be modified (no wheel bearings, washers,
or bushings; no trimming or resizing of wheels). See kit
instructions for full details. Because of the design of the track do not add any
protrusions on the underside of the car or it will rub on the track.
Each car must pass inspection by the race committee at official weigh-in
before it may compete. If a car does not pass inspection, it will be returned to the
owner for adjustments and allowed to be resubmitted within the official weigh-in time.
Official weigh-in time for rank ends 1 minute prior to start of race for
that rank.
Cars will be impounded and not returned to the owner until the races are
concluded or the car is damaged during racing or handling (after which it must be
re-inspected after repair).
Race groupings are according to rank: Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos.
Final overall race consists of first place winner from each rank race.
All races are double elimination until a first and second (and possibly
third) place winner are determined. Each entry continues to race until they have
lost (not come in first) for two races. Final overall race starts with clean loss
slate.
In the event a car jumps its track, there are two possible outcomes.
1) If the car interferes with a car in another lane or with another car's finish
standing the race is run over. 2) If the car does not interfere that car will get a
loss for that race and the other cars in the race will have their positions recorded.
Decisions of the race committee are final.
