On Tuesday November 6, 2001, both Webelos dens went to the Record and had a blast. The Scouts got to see how news papers are made. They learned that the Record is active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Their tour began with a brief history of the Record and a look at some antique printing equipment (a Washington Press and a Linotype Machine). They are on display in the lobby of the Record building. The recently restored Washington press is a hand press that dates back to the 1850's.
The scouts saw giant rolls of paper, the new printing press, and the color printing press where the comics are made. The tour ended with a view of the press room where all the reporters and photographers put the finishing touches on their assignments.
