In August of 2000 while on a business trip to Intel's Dupont Washington office I hiked Mt. Rainier. I parked in the Ipsut Creek campground (Carbon River entrance--Northwest). I did a day hike from the parking lot to Mystic Lake and back along the Carbon River and Carbon Glacier. I'll post GPS data in the near future.
The Northwest rain forest is spectacular!
Clear mountain glacier fed streams.
As well as the Carbon River to cross. By the looks of the river stone
below the suspension bridge the spring runoff is probably a sight to see,
maybe not from the bridge though.
A shot of me at the lower end of Carbon Glacier (it has been receeding in recent years).
Misty rain decorated the flora.
The fauna included Hoary Marmots.
Growing quite happily in the shadow of...
...Mt. Rainier.
The forest ends where the glacier tells it to!
Avalanche!!!
